The Oldest African-American Church in Tennessee

On November 10, 2019 Bethel Missionary Baptist Church celebrated its 216th anniversary. The morning was kicked off with a high-spirit filled service led by Pastor Jackson.  The afternoon service was led by Pastor Lester Lattany and the members of Friendship Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN.

We were blessed to have Morristown Mayor Gary Chesney and Councilwoman Kay Senter join us and share a few words during the afternoon service.  Mayor Chesney declared November 10, 2019 Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Day.

Bethel is a split from First Baptist Church and Pastor Dean Haun sent in a congragulatory video with his well wishes to Pastor Jackson and the Bethel family.  He also expressed his gratitude to Pastor Jackson for his participation on the leadership team for the Go Tell Crusade and plans to present him with a plaque.

Bethel is also the sister church to Cathedral of Faith in Pensacola, FL and Pastor Jack Hawthorne also sent in a video expressing his blessings to the Bethel family. He also took a dig at the Vols at the end of the video for their loss to the Gators, but we will meet again Pastor Hawthorne.

The ladies of the Church Anniversary: Vikki Easley, Lorine Stone, Diana Kinard, Marion Treece, Claudia Thaxton and Trulette Strickland worked tirelessly to make the day wonderful. The culinary staff, Daureen Taylor, Tammie Evans and Beverly Grant prepared a great meal for both services and we thank them all.

We appreciate all who came out to worship and celebrate with us and continue to thank God for you.
