 Reverend Fred A. Matthews
 
Reverend Matthews was born May 9, 1944 to Eugene and Hazel Matthews in Bristol, Virginia.  He is the third of seven children. 
 
Reverend Matthews was called into the ministry in December of 1998.  He has been licensed and ordained to minister in the baptist church. 
 
Reverend Matthews has always been active in the churches he has attended, serving in many capacities.  Among which are Sunday School Teacher, Director of BTU, chairman of Usher Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, Teller Committee, and Chaired the Committee on Committees.
 
Reverend and Mrs. Matthews helped start a Homebound Ministry at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel, Tennessee where he and his wife faithfully visited weekly many people confined to their homes and nursing homes; delivering literature and tapes of church services, a rewarding ministry that ministered to the caregivers and families as well as the homebound.
 
Reverend Matthews has had the privilege of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Southwest Virginia and the Tri-City area.
 
Reverend Matthews graduated from Douglas High School in Bristol, Virginia, attended Tri-Cities State Technical College and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering Technology.  After retirement he enrolled at Victory Baptist Bible College in Roan Mountain, Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Theology.
 
Reverend Matthews served in the Kingsport unit of the Tennessee Army National Guard for six years and was honorably discharged.
 
Reverend Matthews began his work career while in high school working in the Food Service Department of Sullins College in Bristol.  He was later employed at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, Tennessee retiring after over 31 years of service as a senior research technologist.
 
Married for over 44 years to Patrica Maxine (Heath) Matthews.  They have four Children; son Robert, Daughters; Denia, Kim, and Kelia.  "Kelia was born our granddaughter, but we raised her from infancy and adopted her.  We have been blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
